Notes

Notes & Substitutions for Your Skinny Blood Orange Margarita:

Sweetness:
  • Maple syrup: You can adjust the amount based on your preferred sweetness level. For a truly "skinny" version, consider using ¼ teaspoon or replacing it with stevia or monk fruit sweetener.
  • Other sweeteners: If you don't have maple syrup, try agave nectar, simple syrup, or honey (though slightly higher in sugar).
Citrus:
  • Blood oranges: While they offer unique flavor, you can substitute with regular oranges or a grapefruit and orange blend for a different citrusy twist.
  • Lime juice: Freshly squeezed is always best, but bottled lime juice in a pinch is okay.
Tequila:
  • Type: Blanco or silver tequila works best for this recipe due to its neutral flavor. You can experiment with reposado or añejo tequilas for a slightly different taste profile.
  • Alternatives: If you don't have tequila, vodka or gin can be substituted, but the final drink will have a different flavor.
Other:
  • Salt rim: For a classic margarita touch, rim your glass with coarse salt or a Tajin blend. If watching salt intake, skip this step.
  • Garnish: Blood orange wedge, lime wedge, or even a sprig of rosemary adds a festive touch.
  • Spicy kick: Add a dash of jalapeno or chili powder to the rim or directly to the shaker for a spicy margarita variation.
Other dishes that would pair well with this cocktail:
Tips:
  • Use ripe blood oranges for the best flavor and color.
  • Chill your glasses beforehand for an extra refreshing drink.
  • Adjust the ice amount to your preference for a more diluted or concentrated margarita.
  • Get creative with garnishes! Use edible flowers, herbs, or even dehydrated citrus slices for a personalized touch.
Enjoy your delicious and healthy Skinny Blood Orange Margarita! Remember, these are just suggestions, feel free to experiment and find your perfect version!
